Planet Oranj offers vintage items that were originally produced and/or
commercially available from circa 1930 art deco/moderne period through seminal
1980's high design. We specialize in vintage mid-century
furniture, lighting, functional and purely decorative objects to enhance your
homes and quality of life. We particularly favor those that balance a
striking form with forethought to function.
The focus is on 20th Century cultural artifacts whether popular or in some cases
unpopular with particular emphasis on the groundbreaking designs of the 1950's
and into the 1980’s often referred to as Mid Century Modern with some
post-modernism or pre-modernism pieces that may also strike our fancy enough
that we think they fit.
Through the years we’ve been owners of and
borne witness to exceptional examples of work by important designers such as
Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen, George Nelson, Verner Panton, Russel
Wright, Florence Knoll, Isamu Noguchi, Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner, George
Nakashima, Peter Hvidt and their many contemporaries. Populists at heart
we offer what we feel to be a wider array of price categories, design styles
and than many of our competitors.
Our galleries feature selected examples of fine
decorative and functional objects, specializing in including extensive
selections of vintage Blenko Glass (particularly designs by Wayne Husted, Joel
Philip Myers, Winslow Anderson and John Nickerson), Franciscan Starburst
dinnerware, Dansk teak lines designed by Jens Quistgaard (including many teak
items, the pioneering “Fjord” flatware and “Flamestone”
ceramic dinnerware), various Russel Wright glass and dinnerware lines, Edith
Heath designed dinnerware, Massimo Vignelli for Heller MAX2 dinnerware, classic
"space age" electronics and many other representations which often
blur the defining lines of form and function.
Our constant search for quality period objects
to present at the Planet Oranj web store leads us far and wide and we do not
have a full time retail storefront though we operate the webstore 7 days a week
from wherever we might be. Because our objects are specialized and
difficult to find we have found this enables us to provide higher quality
merchandise and we strive for lowest possible costs for shipping.
The founder of Planet Oranj,
Erskine Charles Wood, has provided exceptional mail order service for over 25 years and
has extensive backgrounds in retail and small business administration as well
as an extensive family history in design, fine and decorative arts dating back to the
late 19th Century. This has instilled an appreciation for high qualities of
craftsmanship and artistry in multiple mediums and a determination to provide a
higher level of customer service and professional courtesy in our business
relationships.
